Centrix continued on their mission of Making Dentistry Easier by addressing the need for improvement in retraction materials. In 2012 Access® Edge, a high-viscosity retraction paste, was released, quickly followed by a low-viscosity relative, AccessFLO®, in 2013. Both Access Edge and AccessFLO are kaolin clay-based gingival retraction pastes, containing 15% aluminum chloride, providing dual astringent and hemostatic action, and BOTH are packaged in single-patient tips!
The kaolin clay is designed to absorb excess fluids while the aluminum chloride targets cut capillaries, quickly constricting them to stop bleeding and prevent seepage. The tissue is contracted without damaging the epithelial attachment, gingival height or contour. The atraumatic management of the tissue is more comfortable for patients while maximizing sulcular expansion to effectively expose the margins for easier impressions, implant placements and direct composite restorations. Both Access Edge or AccessFLO can be utilized as the second cord in a “2-cord technique” and anytime a hemostatic agent is indicated.
The duo are both conveniently packaged in prefilled tips that fit into any standard C-R® syringe or gun, so you can avoid the hassle of bulky cartridges, mixing, and any risk for cross contamination. Both are also packaged in individual foil pouches which keeps the material fresh and eliminates the inconvenience of dried out pastes. Upon application, both Access Edge and AccessFLO gently separate the gingiva from the tooth and open the sulcus, while simultaneously controlling minor bleeding in approximately two minutes. After the procedure is complete, the excess can be easily removed by rinsing. What’s missing? Sticky messes leading to re-bleeding, often caused by gingival tissue rebound and shrinkage when packing cord!
Access Edge with its higher viscosity, provides more of a push on the soft tissue, effectively opening the sulcus and exposing the margins of the prep, and is designed to be injected subgingivally or packed around the tooth. The prefilled capsule comes with two Luer-Lock Needle Tips that are fitted to the tube for precise placement. We also include an assortment of GingiCaps for additional mechanical pressure; everything needed for a gentle, yet effective retraction in one kit.

AccessFLO is a low-viscosity retraction paste designed to flow more easily than Access Edge, to get deep into the sulcus and capture the prep margins. As with Access Edge, the single-patient tip is disposable after use, meaning there is no wasted product or risk for contamination!
