Traditionally, patients get great preventive care until about the age of 18, when fluoride treatments stop and insurance halts coverage, and therefore caries in children has seen a decrease in the last decade. Conversely, caries in adult patients is on the rise! We need to help older patients maintain oral health regardless of insurance coverage, because this set of teeth needs to last them the rest of their life.
Good preventive care plus fluoride varnish has resulted in a decreasing rate of caries in kids. Caries is increasing in adults yet only 10% of adults get fluoride varnish. The number of adults who could benefit from preventive care treatment is staggering! Let’s combat caries for ALL!
